Diabetics at Pizza Hut

Pizza is neither a great meal nor the worst for diabetes. All you need is some fact check and monitoring while ordering your pizza. Diabetics can opt for thin crust or skinny pizza at Pizza Hut and avoid the cheese topping to cut down on the excess fat and sodium. If you have diabetes, then ensure to check your portion size when you order a pizza. One or max. two slices are enough. You can also avoid meat if possible and go for wings as a meat option.

Foods to Avoid at Pizza Hut for Diabetics:

You must avoid Meat Lovers Pizza with Original Pan Crust as it contains over 1000mg sodium and will add 470 calories in your meal. You should also skip Super Supreme Pizza Large Original Pan Slice which is too high in sodium and fat. Chicken wings are often tempting but you must control and restrict yourself from ordering Traditional Honey BBQ Bone-in Wings as it can add up to your sugar levels if you eat too many. On average, a person orders or consumes six chicken wings pieces in a day.

Sides must be avoided at all costs especially if it's Bacon Cheddar Fries with Ranch Dipping Cup for its high sodium content. You must also avoid New York Style Cheesecake with Applesauce as dessert as one slice of this dessert item contains 86g sugar. Pizza Hut also offers other Italian dishes such as Pasta. However, you must skip Spaghetti with Meat Sauce and Meatballs and Garlic Bread as it is too high in sodium and sugar.

High Cholesterol at Pizza Hut

Whether large, medium or small, a pizza can boost your cholesterol levels instantly. You shouldn't eat more than one slice of any pizza your order at Pizza Hut. After a day at Sea World all we wanted was good food, and fast... and we didn't want ot leave the hotel. So front desk clerk recommened a couple of local pizza places and, when asked, winked and said Pizza Bella was his favorite. So we ordered for delivery and sat back in expectation of a mediocre pizza... after all, aren't all delivered pizzas mediocre after being delivered? Well, what a surprise for us; the pizza was deilivered quickly and was hot... as in recently out of the oven hot. I have never had a delivered pizza like that. Yummy... that's all we could say... really yummy. Great crust, wonderful toppings, and just the right amount of them. Beverages are a bit on the expensive side but good selection. I could always gripe about Pepsi versus Coke... but I will restrain myself. In the future I'll order delivery from Pizza Bella again... and would even be willing to try some of their other offerings like pasta, salad, etc.

Everything here is bomb! I've been there numerous times and tried a bunch of different stuff and everything has been delicious

Overall, this was good, but not exceptional. We ordered delivery to our hotel. They did not provide plates, utensils, or even a take out menus or future orders. The pizza was tasty. A little too much crust for my crust:toppings preferred ratio. The toppings were delicious, the garlic cheese bread was ok. We would eat here again, but will likely try other places first.

The food was very good! I had the lasagna my husband had the eggplant parm. My son and daughter (8 and 6) shared a personal pizza and they ate it all up. My daughter told the server that they made yummy food. Service was great.

Love, love, love this place! My fiance' and I visit SD about 3-4 times a year, and stay in Old Town San Diego. This place is always on our list of "must visits". The food is amazing, and we always seem to get Andrew as our server, and he is the absolute best!

Dear fellow Yelpers. This is absolutely the worst pizza I have ever had. Undercooked/overpriced dough. Perhaps I'm biased having spent some of my youth in New York, but this is not pizza. They delivered on time, staff seemed nice enough while taking the order but the product left much to be desired. Only writing this review because I take yelp reviews seriously and am always disappointed when the food doesn't live up to the expectation. Perhaps this review may save others. If this is "the best kept secret in old town" the secret is out- this place is overstated and overrated

THE PIZZA. AND THE TORTELLINI ALFREDO. AND THE CHEESY GARLIC BREAD. AND OK, THE CAESER SALAD TOO. Start with the super cheesy garlic bread or if you're feeling slightly more healthy the caeser salad comes in a huge portion and is pretty tasty. If you like the Pizza Port style bready delicious crusts, you will love the pizzas here! Personally i LOVE the one with chicken and pesto, even though I know you pizza purists out there will shake their heads at chicken on pizza. They also let you have the option of adding tomato sauce or pesto or BOTH to your pizza. Lovely. Also, I'm pretty sure they put magic into their alfredo sauce works. Its soo hearty and sooo creamyyy. Get it with the tortellini for extra cheesiness. My mom loves alfredo everything and I took her here and she said it was the best alfredo pasta she's ever had. I know. Bold claim. She's a smart lady though. Overall this is a nice casual italian place, red checker board table cloths and all. Service is great and the wait staff are super friendly! Definitely a great place to try especially if you're walking around Old Town and don't want any of the meh-ish Mexican food.

Delivery was very prompt and precise. Prices are reasonable, but very good relative to the area. The Sigma Chi Pizza had lots of meets and was fresh and thick. The best thick moist crust as well. The wings were very hot, and i just had the regular wings. but they were very fresh and not the frozen kind.....phone attendant was also helpful in recommendations

Pizza Bella serves by far the best Bruschetta. Margherita pizza was very flavorful, portions are very generous and came out hot & fresh! The staff was very attentive and courteous! I will be visiting again in the near future! Amazing food! Fabulous service! Relaxing location. Highly recommend!!!

It's absolutely the worst pizza I've eaten. How ever they got the sign that says it's the best... must have paid somebody off Or living off an old chef legacy. Steve.

Alright, first of all, I will admit that we ordered takeout from Pizza Bella when we got into San Diego after driving all day. The menu was in our hotel and it was pretty obvious they got a kickback, because they sold the hell out of the restaurant. When we got out food, we were pretty underwhelmed. I ordered Fetuccine Alfredo with chicken. The chicken was the best part, but the sauce should have been the hero of the dish. My husband ordered something that tasted the same the entire time. Boring. We ordered their garlic bread, because everyone said it was amazing. it sucked. It tastes like garlic bread that was made last night and then stored in tin foil over night in the fridge..and then microwaved. I ordered a Caesar side salad and my husband had a Mediterranean side salad, and those may have been the best part of the meal. For $40, I wasn't impressed. I'm not sure if it lost some magic along the way, but it didn't do anything for me. OH! And we ordered the chocolate pizza too. YUCK. I just watched an episode of Rescue Me, where a woman seduces Lou with her chocolate pizza. Too bad she wasn't cooking at Pizza Bella that night. Congealed and weird..and I love sweet and salty and all that.

Just discovered this place and I'm in love. I've already been there twice in the past 3 days. First trip, I got the pesto tortellini. It was amazing!! The pesto was so fresh. It came with garlic bread that was crisp and delish. I also ordered the minestrone soup.... AWESOME!!! The next time, I ordered their caesar salad the reg size. It was so big! And then a personal margarita pizza. The salad was super tasty!!! Get it! And the pizza was fantastic.... And I'm saying that from a CHICAGO PIZZA point of view. This is a great place. It's a hidden gem, I will continue to go all the time!!!! Mike was our server..... he's great!!!!!!!!!

A quiet little Italian pizzeria in the heart of Old Town, Pizza Bella has some pretty superb grub. The place is not the easiest to find, but it's worth it to wade through all the Mexican joints in order to find some good pizza. Who doesn't like pizza? The ingredients are always the key to a good pizza in my opinion. Combined with a good crust and you got yourself a winner. However, what sets this place apart to me are their meatballs. We ordered a couple on the side and wow! They are amazing. It's served with a dish of pizza sauce and together with the pizza, I couldn't have asked for anything more.

That food was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!! I just came back from Pizza Bella and I am astonished! The pizza is spectacular! (I Would recommend the cheese pizza.)The pesto bread is wonderful! (Defiantly recommended.)The service is great!(They come at just the right time.) Thanks to Pizza Bella for making this a very tasty dinner!

When we head to San Diego, we always make sure that we stop in at Pizza Bella. Now, this place is in Old Town, but it's not on the main drag... it's one street over, kind of hard to find... But it's worth looking for! Keep in mind, we're about 100 miles away from this place and we only get to go here about every four months or so... but they always remember us... just like we were a local. The service is warm and friendly and very accommodating. They've done things for us that you'll never get from most other pizza houses... or restaurants, for that matter. The pizza crust is very good and the toppings (a very good selection) are even better. But we just love the calzones! Something so simple as putting ricotta cheese (standard ingredient for them) inside with your choice of toppings makes a BIG difference. (Other pizza houses we've been to don't provide the ricotta and a lot of them have a limited selection of 'pre-made' calzones for them to heat-up... No special orders or alterations can or will be made to them.) We love the food so much that we eat our meals there and then take a pizza or two home with us!

It was okay. We had Chicago style deep dish pepperoni. Crust was crunchy, but we were expecting more pepperoni for a deep dish pizza! We've had better, we've had worse. Service is friendly.

Fantastic pizza! Generous cheese and pepperoni. Autism-friendly, courteous staff. Best pizza we've found in SD. Definitely going back.

I love the pizza here! My favorite is the Hawaiian. The antipasto salad is also very delicious. The downside is that they do not have a great beer selection, but they may have a good selection of wine (I didn't ask). I definitely recommend this place :)

I wanted to like this place, but My food was just average, and our dinner table by the restroom, was a little to close for comfort. I guess when I'm in Old Town, I will stick to the Mexican food.

Went to Pizza Bella last week and had the 'kitchen' pizza - an insane gooey mess that was as strange as it was delicious. Something about the ricotta and pineapple balancing out the jalapeños made it all work. A bit pricey at $40+ for an appetizer, pizza and two drinks, but the service was fantastic, and our server Andrew was super-friendly and prompt.

  • Sarah C.

PIzza Bella has the best pizza crust (stone-baked) I've ever tasted - phenomenal flavor. My favorite toppings: green olives, Italian beef. Oh and somehow their pepperoni tastes really great even though I'm not usually a fan of pepperoni. I normally think it's too salty and greasy and not much else, but this is delicious pepperoni. I'm eager to try their ravioli and their sandwiches, but dang I can't stop ordering pizza!

Best pizza in San Diego. Not in the mood for pizza you say? Work your way through their entrées, you won't be disappointed - simply delicious. Great service with a smile. I love this place.

I think Old Town food is all over priced and mediocre, with a few notable exceptions. One very enjoyable one is Pizza Bella!A nice spot that smells so good when you walk in that you just know it's going to be good. Great service, excellent pizza and Italian classics, a huge patio area and lots of close parking. This could be the best spot for locals in Old Town. WHEN YOU GO- Pizza ingredients are all quality. I had a works pizza on the first visit. Chicken Parm and Margarita pizza on the next. Both pizzas had great crust, tasty sauce and spicy pepperoni. The Chicken Parm is excellent; one of my favs in SD. Plump, juicy breasts (cue leering references) perfectly pan fried and covered with delicious cheese and marinara...Grrr! My only issue with the place is thier limited selection of beers. SD is such a hotbed of great craft breweries that every place that serves beer should have a great draft/bottle menu. Great place for a larger party as well. And steps away from the trolley station so drink up, Son!

We ordered the personal sized pizzas and were overwhelmed by the thick, doughy crust. My pizza was packed with veggies, but this made the center so soggy. Out of 3 pizzas we had maybe eaten 3 slices total and left the rest behind. Glancing over at the other tables we noticed the larger pizzas did not have such a thick crust and wished we had gone with one of those instead. We won't be back.

Drove by this place so many times in my life and always wanted to sit down and try out their pizza, so this past weekend I made it a point to get here for lunch. After circling three times for parking I finally found a spot without being too famished. The place was empty and were able to get a window seat and bask in the sun. The menu looked amazing and we finally settled on a Sigma chi without the veggies pizza and the Eggplant Parm. I was eager to try the mixed sauce which is half marinara and half pesto...so when the pizza came out I dove right in. It was interesting but nothing special and the pizza was just...good. Believe me I chowed down on it but the real highlight was the eggplant parm. It was cheesy, saucy, eggplanty???, overall one of the best italian dishes I've had. I wish I hadn't eaten too much of the pizza so I could've had more parm.

Ordered: yelp.com/biz_photos/fPPG… -Spicy BBQ Wings: 8 pieces of spicy wings. They were so spicy, even though the BBQ sauce probably cooled them down. I could only eat one. I didn't expect it to be so spicy. -Italian Quesadilla: it's a pizza, WHAT?! I did not know what it was. It was so good though, it had cheese & ham and something else to make it taste so good. I don't know what that last ingredient is. -Kitchen Pizza (Medium): hmm...what's in it? Pineapples, pepperoni, jalapenos, basil...lots of stuff. I read that it was a must get on yelp. When I tried it, it was TOO SPICY. I didn't expect it to be so spicy, I only had one slice. - Seafood Pizza (personal size): pesto sauce, shrimp, & imitation crab. This was a yummy pizza, should've got only this instead of getting the Kitchen Pizza too. -Chocolate Pizza: if you come here, YOU HAVE TO TRY IT. It sounds weird, but it tastes really good. It reminds me of a chocolate waffle. DELISH!!!! Total was almost $60, way too much food for 2 people. I didn't expect everything to be so big, and I really wanted to try everything. We ate about a quarter of it for dinner, saved the rest for later. If I came again I'd get the Italian Quesadilla, Seafood Pizza, & the Chocolate Pizza, but not the Spicy BBQ Wings & Kitchen Pizza because they are TOO SPICY.

So I was at the Old Town transit station meeting up with my dining companions and one of them had fond memories of this place that served up a wonderful seafood pizza. So we walk about half a block from the station and there it is - Pizza Bella! So fine by me if we eat at a place in Old Town that's not Mexican. I'd been eating Mexican all week. So we walk in and the place wasn't crowded at all. We ended up getting the seafood pizza that one of my dining companions was raving about. The service was pretty good and quick though there weren't that many people there so one would kinda expect it to be. When the pizza came we dove right in as we were all ravenous. I'd say it was pretty tasty pizza and very satisfying. I did notice. however, that there seemed to be a heck of a lot of grease on the pizza. The last time I noticed that much grease on a pizza was from a Papa John's that was brought in to my workplace for some event. Probably because of that we couldn't finish the whole pizza and had to doggy bag the leftovers. The dining companion that suggested the place later told me she had a stomachache that night after that dinner and felt really horrible. Luckily she lived to tell about it. Good thing - otherwise things might have ended up like this: [Scene: outside dining companion's apartment entrance, yellow tape barring entry to the apartment] Me: What happened to her? We just had dinner with her the night before! Other dining companion: I was told she puked her guts out. Literally! Me: I see. She went to that restaurant to get a little taste of Italy. But what she really got was... [pause, put on David Caruso shades] a stomach full of Greece! [cue Roger Daltrey screaming intro to overplayed Who song]

My boyfriend took me to old town as a treat, I couldn't stop talking about going and how much i loved old town. We intended to go to bentowhich, but while we were exploring old town, my boyfriend saw two people holding pizza boxes that said Pizza Bella. We looked up this place and started to look for it, we ended up walking around all of old town, only to find out it was near where we first came in from the trolly station. We got in and it was rather quite, which He and I didn't mind. We were seated outside, it was a beautiful day that shouldn't be wasted inside, they made us a table because they just had a big party. we ordered a medium pesto delight with garlic bread. The garlic bread was fantastic, we were both tempted to get another order of it. It was a good thing we didn't, the pizza was filling enough but not overly. We each were able to get three pieces and they were nice big size pieces. The pizza was full of flavor and all together not bad in price, over all we had a great time and we do plan on coming back.

I went to Pizza Bella when I was vacationing in San Diego. I chose to eat outside but sadly, the ambience the restaurant had worked "so hard" to achieve was being destroyed. As soon as I sat down, I noticed that the outer dining area was in the middle of some sort of mini-mall. Shops all around with bright and obnoxious signs made the atmosphere hard to enjoy. Employees from the shops walked back and forth through the dining area which did nothing to aid the dying mood. I also feel I should mention that one waiter broke several glasses and another forgot our order. The spaghetti was fairly good and I ordered some Italian sausage with it. Unfortunately, they grounded it up and put it in my sauce, making it far too thick. All in all , this restaurant is OK.

I've reviewed and eaten in the restaurant before, but thought I'd write a review for delivery service. Ordered pizza and appetizers last night and everything was amazingly good and delivered promptly! They said up to an hour for delivery, but it arrived in 40 minutes. Got the Hawaiin pizza and Pepperoni/Sausage. The pizzas are really great. Next time I'll order the thin crust, because the crust was a bit too thick for me. Also got bruschetta and antipasta. Both were really good. The bruschetta is full of garlic and sun-dried tomatoes, and the antipasta was so fresh and the house vinaigrette is really delicious with an excellent balsamic. Can't wait to order Delivery again.

I've passed Pizza Bella many times and the sign that reads, "world's greatest pizza" has definitely caught my eye. So when I saw a Living Social deal, I had to go for it. This past weekend we stopped by for a couple of pizzas to go. We had the following... *Seafood (pesto, shrimp, crab & red onions): This taste pretty good, but the pizza was soaked in pesto leaving the crust really soggy. It was really messy and greasy. *Sigma chai (mixed sauce, Italian sausage, bacon, pepperoni & primavera vegetables): Seeing broccoli and carrot among other veggies was nice. This was okay, but it is known for being the best pizza in America...this is a far stretch. *BBQ chicken (BBQ sauce, chicken, red onions & cilantro): This one was good! It was our favorite of the three. I like that they don't skimp on the toppings nor the cheese, but their dough is too soggy and thin for my liking. They do have a small restaurant, but have plenty of outdoor courtyard seating (which isn't dog friendly BTW, hence the take out for us). I think there are too many better pizza places in SD and they need to change their sign to stop misleading people.

Service was good. Sigma Chi Pizza- greasy, soggy, greasy, soggy, did I say greasy and soggy? oh yeah it was gross...so how is this the best pizza in America?! All meat pizza was good. I'd rather eat Costco pizza. I know. It was that bad. Next time I will not get pizza. =)

It's all about the crust. And this crust is pretty damn good! Good food, good service. First visit review. Consistency will bring rating to a five.

Completely underwhelmed, but that is what we get for attempting a meal in Old Town. It felt like a tourist trap.

I LOVE PIZZA BELLA!!! I lived in Old Town for a while and I used to stop in here all the time when I was too lazy to cook or if I had a stressful day. The owners and staff are always fun to talk to. The decor can give you a weird first impression (I base this reaction on when I take my friends for the first time...it was the "where are you taking me?" look). But the food is great :) The pizza is awesome here. I love the Margherita (I know my spelling is not great on this). The pizza dough is a little bit more of a thicker crust and the pizza comes out bubbling with a generous sprinkling of basil...so good! The pastas are also great. I usually get the spaghetti and meatballs. These are always awesome! This is my favorite place to come before or after a Charger's game (usually when the trolleys are so packed, you just want to get off and wait until the crowd dissipates.

Right on Congress St., nearly next door to the transit center and sandwiched between the I-5 freeway and the Old Town state park, this is an unassuming place with some really great pizza! 4 different kinds of crust, generally fast service, plenty of toppings and really thick cheese - first rate ingredients too. The atmosphere is family oriented, but nothing special. It's housed in one of those old commercial buildings that were so in vogue in the 70s - a Spanish-style 2-story that was built so it could be either offices or apartments. There's always Sinatra music playing; outdoor seating in the courtyard around the fountain is great on sunny days. Parking is a bit of a pain - since it's Old Town, and since it's San Diego, street parking ranges from severely limited to non-existent. Your other two options are the $5 pay lot behind the building, or parking in one of the two enticingly-accessible lots across the street, both of which are part of the Old Town state park and which are festooned with signs warning you that parking is for State Park visitors only, and that you'll be hamstrung for parking there if you're not. Feh. All in all, I love this place. Easy to get to, wonderful food, always courteous service and I always leave way too full.

Ordered from here for delivery today. Wasn't feeling pizza, so went with the tortellini. Pluses: They deliver The food showed up fresh and hot It got here before the time they said it would The tortellini was cooked well and while the pomodoro sauce wasn't the best I've had, the flavor was very good. Minuses: Minimum of $15 charge + a $2 delivery fee. To go a mile? That's a bit unreasonable to me. I understand gas prices, the economy, having to make a buck and blah, blah, blah...but nope. A minimum of $17 for one person just isn't cool. The tiramisu was lacking in flavor and a bit bland They go the el-cheapo route with the garlic bread, which is soaked in butter, giving the kind with all those sesame seeds on it Guy on the phone wasn't the most polite thing in the world, but he wasn't awful either. Got better toward the end when he recognized from where I was calling. It definitely wasn't worth the $27 I spent on lunch today. I won't rule them out for dine-in, though.

We had the Signa Chi. It was "OK"...it was pretty salty and way too greasy. the sausage that was on it was delicious. We ordered the "Giant" which was way too much food. We only ate half of it. The staff was great but I don't think I'd sprain any ankles running back to this place.

Just gotta give a shoutout to Mike! He works there and is a totally awesome guy. He is always friendly and welcoming. He remembers my boyfriend and I, asks us how things are going, and talks hockey with us. He is the greatest! Oh, and I have had their pizza now and it is OUT OF THIS WORLD amazing.

Came down to SD for a weekend event, and stopped by Pizza Bella because we had a livingsocial deal $15 for $30 here. Having read the reviews here, we had to get a pizza and a pasta. Settled for the Sigma Chi and the Chicken con Broccoli. The pizza was filling. ... very much so. I'm not a big fan of thick crusts (they said that you can request thin crust, but I forgot to at the time of order) but my friend loved the crunchy outside and soft insides of the crust. The toppings were generous and of good quality. The menu says the Sigma Chi is "voted America's #1 pizza". To me, it comes close. The minestrone soup was also very tasty. I felt that it struck a good balance of flavor between all the ingredients. Generally, I think of minestrone soup as beans-and-celery. My friend also tasted a strong garlic flavor. On the topic of garlic, the Chicken with Broccoli was all about garlic. I'm a garlic fan. and this was like A LOT OF GARLIC. If you're a garlic fan, you'll love this dish. I'm talking about mini-garlic chunks... fresh garlic in pasta with broccoli. Absolutely fantastic! Topped it off with a dessert. NY Cheesecake. I wasn't feeling the chocolate pizza or the tiramisu, so I settled for cheesecake. IT'S ONE OF THE BEST CHEESECAKES I've had in awhile... The flavor was light, but sweet. The cheese was aromatic but not overpowering. Basically it's a I-can-eat-a-lot-of-this-and-not-get-sick type dessert. It wasn't overly rich, but still cheesy enough to satisfy. All this comes at a price though... I'm not familiar with what food costs are like in SD, but coming from LA, this is somewhat expensive for pizza and pasta... The total came out to $45 for two people... which is somewhere on the expensive side for me. On the plus side, the service was fast and courteous. I mean, we got a lot of attention, even though we sat at a corner table way at the end. There's outside seating if you're into that. Moreover, the place is decorated to create a sort of "family-styled" ambiance.

Pizza Bella is one of my favorite Italian places that I have found in SD. They are mostly known for their pizza but they also have delicious Italian entrees and pasta. I love their meat ravioli with meat sauce. They have the best minestrone I've ever had! The staff are very friendly and they usually have sport games on. You have the choice of sitting outside or inside.

Great pizza! We've tried it twice. First time I had a giant Greek Salad and the second time I stuck with the pizza. I love the crust and when you can add zucchini to a pizza, I'll fall in love every time! The staff was friendly and fast.

We ended up parking across the street from this place and laughed about the sign on front that read 'Voted Best Pizza in the Country" or maybe it said world or something. Anyway, after a few hours of walking around Old Town we decided to try it out for dinner. We walked in and they told us there was a 20 minute wait. It was too cold to sit outside and eat so we decided to wait. It took an hour to get seated. I wasn't too happy but the guy was cool and kept checking with us and letting us know it would be a little longer. They had some large parties come in and they got seated before us and I'm pretty sure they didn't have reservations. Not cool. I sat there writing this Yelp review in my head and it wasn't favorable at all. Lucky for them, the food was pretty tasty. We tried some garlic cheese bread and at first it just looked like a toasted sub bun opened up with melted cheese (like some places serve) but it wasn't at all. It had a dense and strange texture and was nice and crispy on the bottom. It was actually pretty tasty! I was totally impressed with the marinara sauce! Normally I never eat that stuff - just not my thing. It may be the first time I've ever eaten bread dipped in it and it wasn't just a dip here and there - every single bite was dragged through the big bowl of marinara and thoroughly enjoyed! I'm going to have to try the pasta because this stuff was awesome! We then ordered a pepperoni pizza and although it was at our table pretty fast, I was very disappointed that the pepperoni was cooked under the cheese. Toppings should always be on top in my book! Normally, I always ask and tell them to cook on top but this time I forgot. I don't understand why places do that - it just leaves a big grease pool under the cheese and one of the best parts of pizza is the crunchy parts of the pepperoni! AND, the grease stays on top and can be sopped up with a napkin by those that care to do so (me). Maybe I'm weird, I don't know.... It was good pizza though. Nice and cheesy with a nice crust (I'm a big fan of crusts). It got a little doughy in the thicker parts but it was over all a good tasting pie! I had killer heartburn afterward but I guess that's part of pizza eating.... We took a few slices home and threw them in the oven for lunch the next day and it was still really tasty and we got to relive the heartburn fun! I'll have to go back and try it the 'right' way (toppings cooked on TOP.)

Buyer Beware - the gift certificates sold by restaurant.com are no longer accepted at Pizza Bella. Apparently, restaurant.com hasn't paid Pizza Bella for months, and they won't take Pizza Bella off the site. Had the gourmet pesto deep skillet the other night - really good. Especially good leftover for breakfast!

AMAZING is all I can say. From NY, NJ, PA and Vegas~I have had multiple experiences with Pizza. I am still thinking of this pie weeks after we left San Diego. You guys know how to do it... See you soon, you will be my first stop after a drink of course! Salute'!

You wouldn't think of Old Town for pizza, but Pizza Bella is definitely a hidden gem. We got the Sigma Chi, which the menu says was voted "Best Pizza in America". I absolutely love the mixed red and pesto sauce. It had primavera vegetables on it and my roommate had a leftover piece and was curious about the carrot and celery, but that didn't detract at all from the overall quality. The ingredients were plentiful and there was a ton of really good mozzarella cheese on it. This was the best pizza experience I can remember in San Diego. They also have a map of Italy on the place mat so you can dream of touring Italy while you wait. I would definitely mix it up in Old Town and give pizza a try soon!

I was excited to try this place because of all the great reviews. Their pizza made me feel really sick. My stomach hurt and I felt bloated for the rest of the day. Not to mention their pizza was way overpriced for what you get. I will say that if you order extra cheese, watch out! There was a half inch thick of cheese and it wasn't tasty either. I also ordered black olives, and the only put like five on each slice. It also needed salt and pepper. Never have I ever put salt and pepper on a pizza before!

Wanted a pizza while strolling around old town. Very happy we found this place. Ordered 2 personal pizzas and garlic cheese bread. Everything came out Hot and freshly baked. Michael checked on us every few minutes to make sure everything is OK. Sat outside in the nice patio With a small fountain and nice music. All in all an excellent option if you want italian food out of the hustle and bustle of the mexican main road.

  • Danny F.

This place is pretty average. Really, it's not much more than a run-of-the-mill, vanilla pizza shop. I think their claim to fame was being featured on a television show something like 25 years ago. There's a lot of better places to eat in San Diego today then there was back then.

If you close your eyes, you might think you're eating Filipppi's Grotto. They both serve old school traditional pizza with the toppings hiding underneath the cheese. Their motto is "world's greatest pizza" which is quite a bold statement and while they are far from that I can say they're a little better than Filippi's Grotto. Another thing that kept from being 5 star like say Sicilian thing is that it was very greasy even though I didn't order sausage or pepperoni just meatball. There was a pile of grease on the bottom and that's just a a big pizza no-no for me. So if you like traditional hearty over NY then you'll love pizza bella. And this is for you dog owner's out there, they will not let any dogs small or large in their rather spacious large outdoor patio in the back which I thought was really odd for a family tourist destination place. And they are adamant about it too. So with that and other better pizza like Sicilian thing, Bruno's, Lefty's and Home Sweet chicago just down the street I probably will not be back and Im being pretty cool guy for giving them 4 stars despite the grease and not hooch friendly.

Pizza Bella in Old Town SD may be the greatest restaurant ever! We happened to stumble upon the restaurant even though we were looking for something else to eat and had to stumble within the same day to get moreof their garlic bread. Service was outstanding both times, as was the food. Portions had been ample and reasonably priced.

Wow, just wow. I had some friends visit from out of town and still being pretty new I consulted my yelpers for what we were in the mood for. You guys never fail me! IT WAS EXCELLENT! We got the chicken con broccoli pasta and a large pepperoni pizza. Everything about this place is fresh and tasty. The atmosphere is pretty great too, you can sit outside or inside. They even put a heater outside for the colder evenings so it's not unpleasant. I definitely want to go back here to try everything else because everything about this place was phenomenal. I see a few reviews saying the bruschetta is great, I didn't personally try it but I saw it being served and if it tastes as good as it looks and goes along with the same standards as what I tried... It's gotta be good!

Family owned ample portions to share so consider that in the pricing of food. Quality ingredients, a clean atmosphere and Old Blue Eyes crooning in the background. The beer and wine are moderately priced but you're here for the food. Fresh grated parmesan wasn't available for my pizza. The flavor profiles were balanced which is a refreshing and expected aspect in dining.

Every time we visit San Diego we have come to Pizza Bella. This is one, if not the best pizza's I have ever had!!! We ordered the pesto pizza with chicken as a suggestion from our waiter...wow it was delicious...not to mention the staff was amazing. Friendly, talkative and always attentive...this is one of my favorite restaurants...

I hadn't been into this restaurant in many years and felt like a pizza during the Lakers game. I ordered a large hand-tossed pizza to go. Two toppings was just under $19 out the door. A little pricey for me but I think it's about average these days. The crust had a good flavor and the pizza was cheesy and pretty tasty. I would prefer just a little crispier crust on my pizza but overall it gets four stars in my book. I remember the last time I was there they had a great full dinner for two with bottle of wine offer for something like $40. They used to have the coupons in the Reader. I guess not anymore. I also remember their portions for the food were very generous and the caprese was a lot compared to most places. Support the only real pizza joint in Old Town and save yourself from that touristy Mexi-American food everywhere else. I'll be going back for some more takeout. The playoffs are just around the corner...

  • Ralph O.

I can not give it five stars and three would have been unfair. I am from NY and I am a thin crispy crust fan and this the reasoning behind my stars. if you like chicago deep dish style then you will love this joint. The pizza has great flavor and the menu is has a lot to offer.

Just stopped by pizza bella tonight and was really impressed by the food and the service! I actually ended trying this place after finding out phils bbq was closed (I'm sure those from SD would understand). So I entered this place with this huge void in my stomach but surprised to find a very cozy little restaurant with pretty good food. I had the sigma chi pizza and chicken marsala. The pizza was definitely the highlight of the dinner (just somethin about that cheese..) but the chicken in my chicken marsala was really tender. Plus, our waiter Franci was very patient and friendly. I would definitely recommend taking to friends or a date here since the restaurant has such a good atmosphere.

Just flew in from Michigan and this place was on my way to my hotel from the trolley stop so I stopped in for some dinner. This is THE best pizza I've ever had in my life. I had the works pizza and it was amazing! The place was packed but it was a Friday night and my server Andrew was awesome, i think its family owned which was really cool, he even gave me some tips on what to do in SD. I'll definitely be back for more!!!

The Kitchen Pizza is amazing! I work in the area and we eat here at least once a week sometimes more. Can't get enough of it. These guys are great. My wife and I (and kids) come down on the weekends and we have had the Mediterranean salad, several pasta dishes and subs. Excellent quality, very clean and great menu selection.

Great food! I have enjoyed all the dishes I have had from this place over the past few months and finally decided I would give them a review. The food has been great, restaurant is always clean, atmosphere is good, and staff is friendly. I have eaten here just about every week for the past few months.

There are two pizzas you'll find nowhere else the Kitchen and Sigma Chi. I believe the Sigma Chi won a National Award (and it's good) but the Kitchen is amazing. You'd never think about putting all these toppings on one pizza but has become a favorite of our whole company. We ordered several Kitchens (their largest size) and one other pizza and the Kitchen pizza's were gone in seconds. Try it. Of course you can't go wrong with anything you end up eating here. Fantastic Pizza and a great environment.

I am raising Pizza Bella to five stars for unfailing consistency in great pizza and salads and for some of the best, most friendly service in town. I get by there about every three weeks so it's not like I live at the place but they all always know me and welcome me like a relative they are glad to see. Where else can you get a wine recommendation for a better wine which costs less than the one you have chosen? This little place has it all, but above all they have "corazón" and put it into what they do.

Man, I love this place. My favorite is of course the Kitchen Pizza, but with a modification, +garlic. Mmm mm mm. The staff is fantastic, real friendly, and they definitely go the extra mile to get your pizza just right. They do some delivery in the area, and are more than happy to seat you in the fountain'd courtyard, or inside their dining area. Big band music creates a warm ambiance with the decor. I probably have a Kitchen Pizza on average twice a week.

Loved this place! Staff was amazing...super friendly, helpful and happy, especially Jason! The Caprese Salad was more than enough for two and very fresh and the deep skillet pie was delish! All around great choice! We can't wait to come back for some real Italian dishes next time.

We ordered a pizza and were told it would be about 45 minutes but it arrived less than 30 minutes after calling and right out of the oven hot. This is the best pizza we have eaten in a long time. Great and plentiful toppings and really good thick, fresh crust.

Pizza Bella is old school customer service and the best of the best in taste. You are guaranteed to like the food and to tell your friends about this place. Not just pizza on the menu either. They have a variety of pasta selections that will make your taste buds sing Italian opera in praising delight. And it does huts that they ate located in Old Town either. Where you can go for that long romantic walk with your special someone and then come back for some great desert and an espresso.

Call me biased, because I used to deliver pizzas for them back in 1999-2000 during my senior year at Crawford High, but hear me out. Then again, I'll know some inside stuff that a regular reviewer might not. Their pizzas are great. The former owner (I found out the ownership has changed hands a few times since I worked there) was an Italian immigrant and an engineer. He used his engineering background to make some really good dough (ice crystals to keep it as cold as possible before hitting the high heat in the oven). He would always advise people to try the sausage, which was homemade, and I have to agree, it is very good. They still make everything the same, it's just under new ownership. Perhaps their most famous was the "Sigma Chi" pizza, so named because it was judged the best pizza on the "Mike and Maty show" (shows how old that review is, but it's not as if the pizza got worse since then) as judged by 20 members of the Signa Chi fraternity I believe at UCLA. I think something like 18 out of 20 picked it (I can't say who the other entrants were, but anyway, just know it's a good pizza). What's on it? The sauce is a mix of half red sauce and half pesto, and it comes with sausage, bacon, and spring vegetables. One of the keys to a good pizza is to have the toppings UNDER the cheese, so they don't get dried out. Anyway, the pizza isn't cheap, but it's not overly expensive, and it's worth the price you'll pay for. The original owner knew pizza, he wrote a book about it. I'll say it's easily one of the best places to get pizza in San Diego (I also like Etna's), and obviously other people's tastes vary because pizza has so many different versions which appeal to different people. But try it out.

Again you Yelpers got me. This is pretty basic pizza. Why 5 stars? It's just plain dough with plain sauce...just as bad as filipi's.

THIS IS MY FAVORITE ITALIAN RESTAURANT! They really do have the Best Pizza in Amercia!! My favorite is the kitchen pizza but I have had them all and they are all very good. Their pastas are great too. The Shrimp Diablo is a must try. If you have one of their delicious salads have the house pesto dressing...unbelievable! Their staff is very friendly. The owners are there 100% of the time keeping things running smoothly. The restaurant is quaint and the outdoor courtyard is spacious. They serve beer, wine, and liquor. PIZZA BELLA...YOUR THE BEST!

This was one of the two pizza delivery places suggested by my hotel. Pizza Bella had the best reviews so I decided to give them a try. I got a medium vegetarian pizza with hand tossed crust, which was about $20 with tax and the delivery charge. They quoted me a 45-60 minute delivery time and they were there in 45 minutes. My pizza was okay, but the crust tasted a little off. I think it was because the pizza was a little burnt. If I tried them again I would get one of their more unique pizzas (like the seafood pizza) and I would try their thinner crust.

What a great Italian restaurant hidden in Old Town!!! Everything is wonderful, from the pizza to the pastas. The entres are very reasonably priced, as is the wine. :-) This is now one of our family's favorites!

Good enough that I'm gonna give them a second try -- the "most popular" pizza I ordered was completely eaten by the crowd for which it was ordered but it was a little strange...the next time we're going to try a more "normal" combination of toppings.

I am reviewing this as being "The Best Pizza in America". It isn't. I don't want to talk TOO bad about this place, but they should expect such criticism for such high claims. They over cheese their pizza. In the process, turns their awesome crust in to a mush. Also, since the cheese is the star (which tasted like mostly a mozzarella blend) it drowned the sauce. The result was a greasy mess. They had the access to make a truly awesome pizza, but the execution is not there. My friend that I went with enjoyed her pizza. It has a market that will buy their pizza.

the place. a small quaint restaurant located in old town. not too much seating, but there is a outdoor patio i have yet to try out. the food. i had the minestrone soup, suggested by mike the server. delicious! the vegetables weren't under nor over cooked. they were perfect. only minus, the soup was so hot it burnt my tongue. in addition to the soup, i ordered the alfredo with sundried tomatoes. again, delicious. i'm picky about my alfredo..i hate it grainy, and i like a thick creamy sauce. it wasn't too much of anything. it was just perfect. i was quite impressed. the service. slow. but i don't blame them. i'm sure there was only one cook, given the fact that it was only a tuesday night and they weren't expecting a lot of people. downside was that i went when there was a table of 14 people, which many consisted of kids. that's pretty much the only negative i have to express about this place. all in all. i think everyone should at least give this spot a shot. you might get hooked.

We got the Sigma-Chi pizza, because they said it was "voted Best Pizza in America". ( I guess that's why my husband wanted it.) I can't say I liked it that much. Carrots, celery, and brocoli, to me, don't belong on a pizza, but the sausage was good and the cheese was real, salty, and plentiful. I would eat here again, but I'd pick another pizza. The flavorless cannoli was disappointing. This place is a little pricey, probably because it's in old town. I've had better pizza for less in San Diego.

The Sigma Chi pizza-disgusting!!! I didn't think I could ever find a pizza I could not eat, but this was it: where's all that grease coming from???!!!!! The bottom of the pizza was soaked in grease, the top has smth like an array of vegetables and very salty sausage. Stay away from it. The lasagna-did you drop the salt shaker in the pan???!!!! Again, unbelievably salty and flavorless otherwise. The minestrone-yuck, again greasy water with a few veggies, salty but missing the beans in a classical minestrone, and the tomatoes. I will never go back.

This place made me feel like I was in Italy, kinda.. even though I've never been to Italy, but it felt pretty legit. It had a very homey atmosphere and they played old Italian music, which was cool. For an appetizer we shared the cheesy garlic bread which had a lot of garlic flavor. I had a really good caesar salad for my lunch because I was still full from breakfast. My friend had the eggplant parmesan, which everyone tried and loved! For dessert we all shared the chocolate pizza. Some of our party loved it, some liked it, and I was the only one who didn't like it, probably because I love both chocolate and pizza, but I can't have them together. All in all, I'd come back here to try more of their dishes.

If I could I would give this 4 1/2 stars. The fedichini is very original and the pizza is stuffing and amazing! I love the place and decor also. It is very small with nice waiters. It is in a great location if you live in Mission Hills or Old Town!

If you like pizza hut, papa johns, digiorno etc., this is not the place for you. However, if you crave good, authentic pizza, look no further. Thanks to groupon, I could afford to take my nieces out for 'real' pizza. We kept it simple and ordered sausage and pepperoni. The slices were so loaded that we could only eat one slice (like I said, 'real' pizza). Since dining here, we have vowed to return. The prices definitely aren't $5 or $6 per pizza. However, the pizza is so yummy, that it's more than worth every cent!

This place was so cute! When you first walk in, it looks SO small, until you get outside into their courtyard. Outdoor seating would be SUPER romantic if we went at night. The food was delicious but this place would have gotten 5 stars if they didn't use only carrots, celery, and zucchini in everything that had "primavera vegetables".

Cute location and decor, very reasonably priced and HUGE DELICIOUS PIZZA. I got the pesto with extra cheese and it was warm and thick and tasted great. The crust is nearly irresistible.

pros...pizza is just as good. we still get the works pizza, thinker crust. i still got the tall glass of mountain dew, but this time we got the buffalo bbq chicken wings, which were delicious and messy to eat. went here on the off hours after lunch and it was very easy to get a table. cons... the atmosphere has changed a bit, there are no longer the hanging chianti bottles with people's names and the date on it. parking is still a pain, even during the off hours.

Some of the best pizza we've eaten, and we love pizza. We've had pizza on every major event in our 9 yrs of marriage. Seriously, an odd place for such a good pizza joint, but you won't be dissapointed by the taste and quality.

Spent a few days in Old Town San Diego and while at the Wine Cabana, we asked Angela (the bartender) for a suggestion of pizza delivery for the next day (since football playoffs were on). She gave us Pizza Bella and we were sooooo glad she did. Wow! We chose 'the works' with a thin crust and the flavor was amazing! The outside of the crust was nice and crunchy, the vegetables (especially the sausage) was plentiful and cooked just the way we like it. The crust toward the inside wasn't as crispy but I'm sure that was b/c of delivery. I thought the price was reasonable. They also had wine for purchase and it was actually a pretty good Cab. Great pizza and a half way decent bottle of wine...not bad for not wanting to leave the hotel room :) We will definitely order from Pizza Bella again when we're in town!

Came here with my lovely bf a couple months ago and it was the best pizza I have had in a whileeeeeeeeee. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was nice and relaxing. I don't remember our servers name but I think he was one of the owners. We ended up sharing the Caprese which was definitely the best I have ever had and I was in Italy for 4 months. We also got the pesto pizza (dont remember the exact name) and that was to die for! Oh and 5 days later, the cold leftovers were still great! Nommmm nommm nommm

LOVE having lunch here with my Grandfather(he has an office in the same building). The sandwiches are always served on fresh baked baguettes and the ingredients are always fresh. The pizza is(obviously) the main attraction but if you don't have a whole lot of time, go with a sandwich or salad. The portions are great and the customer service can't be beat. PLUS THEY DELIVER! How many amazing little pizzerias do you know of that deliver?! None. Tell Jason or Frankie that Brittany or Fred McClintock sent you. Enjoy!

I have ate a lot of pizza but this was one of the best we had the pesto pizza with the blended pesto and tomato sauce. It was delicious hand toss pizza with chicken on top. I actually found this place by accident and I highly recommend it, I can't wait to go back and try the pasta. Oh yeah its a small romantic and cozey place with out side dinning.

My favorite pizza place in san diego. The pizza is always top notch with fresh tasting ingredients. The service there is prompt and personable. A carafe of wine is very affordable. They have a nice outdoor plaza that is great for eating in the sun on a warm afternoon. If its cold, they also have a great indoor seating area. A poster below said that the parking in back is not free anymore. This is not true. Ask the server - customers get TWO HOURS FREE in the lot behind the restaurant.

we recently had pizza provide food for a little company shindig -- what a pleasant surprise! i don't know why i keep thinking they're "only" a pizza place -- the bruschetta and the buffalo chicken wings were delicious! the biggest surprise? chocolate pizza. i know i know, disregard the !? feeling and give a taste -- it is pleasantly surprising and tasty :)

Love, love, love Pizza Bella. Tonight, we were hanging out, watching True Blood and suddenly I got the craving for some pizza. Which is weird because characters are known to eat human hearts and blood obviously. Anyway, I always order the same thing: Mushroom and Co. It's so damn good. Mushroom, onions, Italian Beef, olives (I skip them) and the most hearty and delicious crust. I'm running out now to get my pie, but I was thinking that I have to give these guys props. Their only flaw is that they're not open late enough for that late night craving. But, just so you know, it warms up well the next day! Don't believe all the hype about the other pizza places in SD, this is the shit!!

if you like bruschetta you MUST try this place! even delivered, it was divine! the sundried tomatoes were perfect in this, and it was sweet overall, which i personally enjoy very much. the bread retained most of it's crunch, and i can only imagine how wonderful it would be for dining in! the pizza was good, but i got a personal size and the cheese and crust were both a little thick for my taste. i do think personal size pizzas are hard to get right. at least in my experience. so i forgive them. i ended up putting the extra bruschetta topping on the pizza and it was delicious! i would definitely eat here next time i'm in town. YUM! ps- i love a place that delivers beer! (am i allowed to say that?!)

I am debating to whether giving this place a 3 or a 4. I like the restaurant, however this one did not receive the well like score among the relatives, therefore I had to debate whether it is a 3 or a 4. First thing is the restaurant is located off the old town main street. Therefore, it is not too crowded. On the menu, there are numerous mentioning of awards, so you know the pizza should be great. My wife ordered the Margheritan and the relatives ordered Seafood and Hawaiian. (You know how asians are, we can't eat a pizza meal without the Hawaiian) The Margheritan was tasty as we asked for thin crust. The thin crust is still thicker than the one you would expect from an Italian restaurant. The hand toss is extremely thick. From the side view, it looks almost like a tiny bread bowl. The seafood has a nice fillings on top, and the Hawaiian, well is Hawaiian. If it was only me, I would come again, with my relative, I may not, that's why I gave this a 3 instead of a 4.

Pizza Bella is by far the best pizza in San Diego. The staff is excellent, the food is great and the atmosphere is really comfortable. My husband and I go there for date night, get the cheesy garlic bread and split a personal pizza-always a good deal. When they are busy, they usually tell you it is a 45 minutes wait-which is always worth it, but you usually don't wait more than 25 minutes. If you are craving pizza, this is the place to go!!! We always feel like family when I am there!!

Had a craving for some pizza for lunch so I went to my friend Yelp! Sure enough Pizza Bella lived up to the reviews. Pizza was very good and the crust was excellent. Service was great! Heard a few order thin crusts so that will be my choice next time!

Looking for a pizza to enjoy during the Super Bowl, I came across Pizza Bella on Yelp, and I was hopeful; their website lists a number of national awards and reviews. We ordered the Sigma-Chi and cheesy breadsticks for carryout. The ingredients were good, but the dough was uneven, and the cheese thickened a little too quickly. Overall, its on par with Papa Johns. Perhaps the restaurant experience is a little better.

I was just on vacation in San Diego and read the reviews and decided to try it! AMAZING! I got a pepperoni pizza and it was SO good. They make their own dough, which I love. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Ok, the sign says Best Pizza in America and boy, are they right! Stayed in Old Town with my fiancé and we wanted something other than Mexican food for dinner since we had it for lunch. We were seated right away by a friendly lady in am outdoor patio area. Pretty nice ambience. I ordered a salad to start and my fiancé ordered us some wings. The salad was good. It was basic as is usual for all pizza spots. The wings were so good. Great flavor and so tender. We ordered a medium Sweet and Hot Pizza. It took a while to come out which was fine because when it did O-M-G! When food makes me wanna dance, you know I'm enjoying it. Our pizza had pepperoni, jalapeños, and pineapples under a layer of cheese. Let me tell you, I don't like pineapples on my pizza, nor do I like crust. My plate was empty afterwards. It was delicious. Everything about it was good, we will be returning!

So, it's been a year since our first experience with Pizza Bella and after three failed attempts to visit the restaurant we finally made it. To begin with the original 5 star rating for delivery to our hotel was not a fluke, and the in-person visit was even more of a pleasure than I anticipated and the food was outstanding. Being that the restaurant is in old town about 15 minutes from our hotel the delivery time compared nicely to the in restaurant time wait for food. This time we had two small pizzas and two past dishes and one chicken parmesan. The chicken parm was one of the best I have tasted, nice tender and juicy chicken with just the right amount of breading. Portion sizes were perfect, not too large and not too small. No wait for seating on a Friday night, small interior space but well laid out so you don't feel crowded and the staff, supper attentive and genuinely friendly. Can't recommend this place enough, so I will have to go back again (hopefully in less than a year) 5 Stars across the board!

Wow, amazing food. So we decided since we're staying in Old Town to get delivery. Found Pizza Bella and decided to give it a try. A medium pepperoni pizza, a small salad, and a tortellini alfredo with chicken. The tortellini was our favorite by far, but the pizza was good as well. The pasta first! The tortellini had a great spice to it, not too stuffed with cheese and a nice white sauce that complemented that spices on the tortellini. The chicken was a good addition as well, although not completely necessary as it was 2.95 extra. I liked the pizza, but I'm a thick crust type of gal so I'm a bit biased. : ) I enjoyed the dough, it was nice, fluffy and thick. My favorite! If you're more of a thin crust fan you may not enjoy it as much. Overall a good delivery experience. Total was 40 dollars for 3 people including delivery and tip. We were happy customers!

Delicious. Ok we rolled up to this pizza place to eat and wow walking in the staff was friendly. It has a cool atmosphere we were quickly seated. Ordered the works pizza it was delicious. Great flavor nice crunch. The staff even walked up and asked how was the pizza. This is a must do if your craving pizza come on In.

Ahh-may-zing cheesy garlic bread! Seriously delicious with a sesame seed bottom. Lots of garlic flavor. Tried the skillet, deep dish pizza called the works. It had loads of fresh toppings including sausage, pepperoni, onions, mushroom, peppers, black olives. We added jalapenos for a kick. The dough was just right, not too doughy and not too dry. Definitely enjoyed the food here at Pizza Bella's!

Great pizza in an odd location! Who would have thought Old Town would have a killer pizza joint? Pizza Bella has a classic, near deep dish style pie with a nice thick crust and excellent cheese. Their food is consistently good time after time. The restaurant itself has a nice ambiance with old wine bottles, comfy seating, and Sinatra music playing in the background. They also have a large outdoor seating area but I prefer eating inside for the feel of it. (I'm not such a fan of plastic outdoor chairs). The owner and wait staff are super nice guys who give good conversation and a warm handshake to us regulars. They really know how to make you feel at home! I wish I could get their more often than I do but the location is a bit out of the way for me. I come to Pizza Bella for a quality pizza in a comfortable and inviting space. Good people. Good food. Nuff said!

Didn't know this place was even in old town. It right off the street and it's awesome. All sorts of Italian food to choose from. The pizza was awesome and the pasta was just as good. There is a patio in the back to sit which is relaxing. Our server was very nice and helpful. I would come back for sure!

Such a good restaurant. I work down the street and got a craving for balsamic vinegar and decided to check this place out. I was not disappointed. Lou was my waiter and provided some of the best service I think I've ever received in my life (give this guy a raise). Not only was he great with me, but I also saw him with some international tourists whose English was a bit broken and he still helped them navigate the menu and offered suggestions with such kindness. The entire staff is warm and friendly, making you feel right at home. Just the bread alone is worth coming back for. Too often at Italian restaurants do you get hard crusted bread that tastes dull (maybe just my neck of the woods), but the bread here is fresh, soft and tastes amazing. My Caesar salad was delicious and, oddly enough, the margarita I got (strawberry) was better than most you'll find on the main street in Old Town. Definitely want expecting that! Having spent a good amount of time in Italy, Pizza Bella reminds me of eating dinner in Florence. You can tell the food is quality, flavors reflecting the region along with other tasty options, and the service is personable, treating you like family.

This is defiantly the best pizza I have ever eaten. Voted Americas best, I would have to agree. The crust is amazing, the sauce is flavorful. Could not be friendlier staff! A must have when in Old town!

My sister & I were in town for the San Diego Half Marathon and we were starving. Looked up on Yelp for places to eat and we ended up at this place (it had good reviews) it was a little busy and we were standing by the entrance for about 5 minutes before anyone acknowledge us (and there were plenty of workers around) finally they took down my name and said it would be 10 min. 20 min later we were seated and our server took our order & brought us our drinks. I ordered an individual pizza w/ cheese & pineapple & my sister the one with jalapeños & pepperoni. We also ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken to share. Our pizza came & we ate 1/2 only (they were pretty big) and as we were getting ready to ask for the check they brought us the fettuccine Alfredo. We ended up telling the story we would have that to go. When we got the check it was $54 (the fettuccine was $20 & the portion was not that big) The pizza was very good (well seasoned & the prefect amount of sauce) and the next day when we reheated the fettuccine Alfredo that was very good as well. The place was clean. Next time I'm in SD I might stop here again (but I won't be ordering the fettuccine Alfredo)

Yummy garlic bread and friendly service. Ordered take out, took about 15-20 minutes. Ordered a chicken parmesan and fettuccine with chicken and broccoli. Both were average. The chicken parm needed way more marinara sauce and the fettuccine was just okay, very oily. I'd be willing to give this place another try - this time for pizza and update my review. Updated review: Ordered delivery and it took about 30 hour, pretty quick for a Saturday night. Tried their hand tossed, make your own pizza. It was pretty good but very bread-y. Was really disappointed with the caesar salad which for $9 was tiny.

We decided to try this place because it was within walking distance of our rental in Old Town and it got pretty good reviews on yelp. The best part of the meal was relaxing on the nice outdoor patio in the shade of an umbrella. Overall, we enjoyed our experience, but I can't say that I'd be looking forward to coming back. I ordered the minestrone soup and Mediterranean salad. I liked that the salad came with lots of different veggies and it even had artichoke hearts. But there was wayyy too much dressing and it made the salad so so sour. Especially at the bottom of the salad where all the dressing had pooled, it was sooo sour I couldn't even finish it all. The minestrone was good, pretty much what you'd expect from a minestrone. My dining companion ordered a personal pizza, which looked tasty. I tried a bite and I really like the crust, but he felt the toppings with the cheese and pepperoni and sausage was overall too greasy.

I came to San Diego with my girlfriend for the weekend and decided to stay in old town. We were looking for places to eat and we're not really feeling the millions of Mexican food places around this area so we decided to get some pizza. We looked through and saw this place was walking distance from our hotel which was great. As we get there we are greeted at the door and seated right away. A gentleman server walked up I do not recall his name but was very polite and offered us great service. We ended up ordering the Hawaiian pizza which was cooked perfectly, nice crunchy crust with the cheese a lot of cheese which is the way I enjoy it with very very fresh ingredients I highly recommend coming here you will not be disappointed at all.

This place is phenomenal! We arrived a little after closing. We almost walked away, but they turned us around and took care of us! Excellent customer service!!!! Even recommended a beer from Michigan that paired up excellently with the fantastic pizza!!! Five stars! Order the meat lovers and the bruschetta! You can't go wrong!

This is probably one of the best kept secrets in San Diego. Great atmosphere set in historic San Diego with some of the best Italian food I have had. The 'Shrimp Diablo' was outstanding with a great selection of wines to pair. With all of the Hispanic food places around, it's a big surprise to find an Italian place that can stand out above the rest. A must try while in the area!

We lovvvved Pizza Bella! We had many apps, salad, of course pizza, pasta, and yes dessert too! Everything was delicious and the staff was friendly and very attentive. This place is perfect for large groups and/or parties. They have a large outdoor seating area that prob fits about 50 or more. We sat inside and we were a group of 20. The Sigma pizza was very popular w/ our group but for me, didn't like carrots and celery on my pizza. We ordered a giant size and it was very GIANT! My fave was The Works and The Margherita. My kids loved the lasagna and spaghetti and all the apps seem to fly off the plates. The Greek salad was very good and portions were heaping! :) We will definitely be returning here!

Someone shoot me in the face and call Jesus! We are visiting SD and were not in the mood for Mexican even though we were in Old Town. Kids and dad were craving pizza. Pizza Bella rocked it! For a family of four $20 fed us all (shut up right!) ...and the thin pepperoni pizza was to die for! They put tons of cheese over the pepperoni! Brilliant. We ate there 2 nights in a row.... We may be back tomorrow, too.

Second time at this amazing Italian gem. Michael was our server and was very attentive. We ordered some garlic cheese bread which was DELICIOUS and came with marinara on the side. (Plus in my book) One of us got the tortellini with Alfredo sauce and it was AMAZING. The pesto Delight pizza is also so so good. My uncle got the chicken Parmesan and said everything was really great and fresh. Overall, the experience was a really delightful one. I would highly recommend it to anyone! Great service and great food = happy family

Nice atmosphere. We sat outside and it was beautiful. Service was really good. Michael did a great job making sure we were taken care of. So now for the food, the pizza was very greasy and the taste was nothing special. For the kids we got the chicken with broccoli fettuccine and that was tasty but small portion.

On vacation I had a serious craving for pizza. Menu on Yelp was useless but you could order from the app. I googled the restaurant and got the full menu there. We ordered the pizza called The Works and a piece of the mousse cake. I ordered a medium and the pizza was so heavy with toppings it was a lot of food! The delivery guy knew right where we were staying (a previous delivery had gotten so lost and since we aren't from around here it was hard directing him to the condo) and he was very nice. I recommend a nice tip amount :) I really enjoy the pizza. Lots of toppings and good crust. Oh but the slice of cake was not cake...more like a chocolate mousse pie. I'd recommend this place to my friends.

This place was reasonably priced and the food was very tasty. I don't typically like walking into a place within a half hour of closing but circumstances dictated otherwise. Despite that, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. They did not make us feel rushed and performed their service with a great attitude. I definitely recommend going here.

Great Pizza! I was staying at a hotel in the hotel circle area and didn't feel like driving somewhere to eat. I ordered via yelp/eat24. They delivered my two pizzas 10 minutes earlier than the estimated time and the pizzas were nice and hot! They tasted great! All ingredients looked and tasted fresh! They are not stingy with the ingredients! Love this place!

We went here for the first time tonight. I don't have anything bad to say. The food was so good my husband and I couldn't talk about much else. We were impressed. The server was great too. It took a bit of time for our pizza to come out, but it was so worth it. We live close by, so we were excited to see they deliver.

The only reason I would give 4 stars is because our server wasn't very attentive and kinda just disappeared. But besides that, The portions are massive for their prices! My boyfriend got a calzone and I swear it was massive!! And it was very delicious! I would definitely go back when I visit San Diego again! Good authentic Italian food!

Just called for a delivery order after reading yelp reviews AND reviewing their online menu. My goodness...for two people our order was $44. Wtf!? I added the cost & got $34. So we called to verify we're on the same page basically did we order from the right online menu...the menu online is bogus!! The dude on the phone says the prices are subject to change at any time...WTH!? So we got the new year's pricing??? And mind you he wasn't friendly as other yelpers mention how nice the staff is. Maybe we called at a bad time. UPDATE your online menu prices please!! Cause technically your false advertising prices you seem not wanting to honor. The prices are subject to change shows laziness on your marketing side of the business...give folks correct prices!! Hopefully our food is delivered in a timely manner & it's correct....with the extra stuff we order and paid extra for and there's nothing missing. I will follow up shortly when our delivery arrives. And mind you were on a mini vacation using the reviews of others in exploring what Old Town San Diego has to offer. UPDATE: our food isn't worth $44...sorry. and we weren't provided with parmesan cheese, red peppers or plates...it's a freaking delivery to a hotel. I guess we would of been charged extra for these "delivery items".

This was pretty good. The drinks were pretty strong so more bang for your buck there . I had chicken tortellini which was delicious but very rich. My husband had the eggplant Parmesan and enjoyed it. My daughter and bro-in-law had single size pizzas, both enjoyed. The garlic bread however not so good. I Would definitely recommend this place if you are in the mood for Italian while you're in Old Town. The only regret we had was not having a fridge for the leftovers!

Was lured in by the world's best pizza designation, only to find that it was for a particular pizza called the Sigma-Chi which was not vegetarian friendly. Had the Margarita personal pizza and a side salad. Dining companion had a Peroni and a pepperoni personal pizza and side salad. Orders came quickly and were delicious. Neither of us could finish and had to take home the majority of the food. So tasty and filling! Service was great by a very good looking waiter. Loved this place!

Please read!!! So last minute we needed somewhere to eat when my family to came visit. We got here and waited forever and when we got a seat to order. They didn't have bacon :( so I got regular combo pizza and my husband ordered cheese and steak ...they were OUT OF BREAD! So he ended up getting some spicy shrimp pasta something my daughter got tortellini. ANNND.....OMG when we got the tortillini the smell was so strong of garlic we tried it..WOW NOT WHAT WE WERE EXPECTING! It was amazing! My husband spaghetti was orangish sauce spicy like an Asian Yao hon sauce n shrimp!!! Soooo good! My pizza was soooo good the pepperoni was so meaty I didn't realize I didn't have bacon!! Everyone's food was beyond great Only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because the lack of preparedness of food on hand but I guess it's so good they get a lot of people. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Been coming here for over two years and it is always the best food around. I live in Old Town and eat here once a week. The pizza is the best but don't be afraid to try the pasta! It is also the best around with homemade sauces like no where else.

I'm not morbidly impressed but not terribly perplexed by the food and service. They didn't quite bring our party of 10 menus immediately but, service was prompt and they came and checked on us regularly which was nice. I love being accommodated. Food wasn't hot when it got to me. My boyfriend and I shared a meatball sub and they supposedly make their own bread, i recommend changing the recipe, guys. It tastes kinda like cheep warehouse-massed produced bread. Ok moving on - They were gracious and helped us with a celebration cake and took it to the back for refrigeration without pause. I was pleased. All in all I was there for the comfort and presence of my family. It was a decent set up for a large group of us on a Saturday.

I always order from Pizza Bella for delivery!!! Every Pizza has been on par and either early or on time from their estimated delivery time! I usually order their giant pepperoni pizza when we have big gatherings and it is A LOT of pizza. I love how they put an extra layer of cheese on top of the pepperoni. Makes it nice and gooey and extra yummy to eat! Their prices are pretty reasonable but you do get what you pay for!!!!

Ordered pizza to be delivered from this place. Pizza came missing 1 of the toppings. And looked like it had been through a rough car ride. All the cheese was on one side. Here is my problem though. I didn't put a tip on the card. I didn't realize I didn't have cash and I work in an industry where cash tips are welcome. When the delivery guy got it he said it couldn't be added to the card. Ok. I felt pretty bad for not having the cash. So I was going to have someone drop some money off to them. They called me 2 times with in a half an hour to get me to add a tip to my credit card...... The pizza looked like it could have been great and I've heard good things about this place from friends. So I'm going to give it a second try...probably in person though.

Ordered in our hotel room. Was pleasantly surprised by the fast delivery and hot, delicious food! We ordered the pesto pizza with chicken and spinach, cheesy garlic bread, house salad, and cannoli. Everything was on par! Reasonable prices for the quality and quantity. Delivery man was very nice. Highly recommended to anyone interested in a night of delicious Italian pizza! Thanks!

Just ate here tonight (2/23/2014 while here in San Diego on vacation. First off Andrew hands down has the best customer service my eyes have ever witnessed! You can truly tell he loves his customers and sincerely cares about our needs while at PB he went above & beyond for my Husband & I, even allowed us to finish our drinks out in the courtyard while they were closing.it was nice not to be booted out right at closing like most places do.now on to the Bomb Pizza it was the best authentic pizza we ever had! Was definitely a party in our mouth! Can't wait to come back 2 Pizza Bella!...Also Very Very Good Prices We Luv Pizza Bella Craig & Shawntelle From Washington State

My wife and I went here for lunch on a Thursday afternoon, and as soon as we walked in the courtyard we were greeted and sat at the table of our choosing outside. Service was fast and efficient, and our pizza was quite good! We ordered the meats pizza, and the medium size was just perfect for the two of us. Good place right by Old Town.

Best pizza in America according to their menu. Whoever thinks that needs to either get out more or shave their nose down. (Pinocchio) Average pizza at best, delivery experience was poor. Not sure if I caught them on a bad night. I'm from Chicago, and not to be mean, but I told them that and they threw down. Stood behind the claim and that's cool. I love family businesses and wish I could say something different. Sorry, I would Love to give a better grade and be supportive, but the next guy deserves the truth.

Best pizza I've found in San Diego .... Service is great! We alternate between deep dish and thin crust....

Mediocre at best. Not particularly offensive pizza but no where near the claim and definitely not worth stopping for considering the options nearby.

The service was very attentive, but not intrusive. I had the works pizza, my friend had the fettuccine alfredo--both meals were great! I will be back.

I have now been there three times ,Each time 2 adults and one child dining. These visits had different combinations of people and two years apart. the very first time was by far the best - We had a pizza and it was indeed a good pizza -Had me wanting to go back again the second time - a different pizza - yet a pizza ,was thicker which I normally like , but not good at all . Just lacked everything about a pizza the third time -- NO pizza - tried food from the menu - MISTAKE two of meals were OK -- fair - good the other one was ?? Here in a nutshell my observation ,Although the hand tossed pizzas are good THE REST OF THE MENU IS OVERPRICED ! SOUPS , SALADS, ENTREES AND ESPECIALLY PASTAS OVERPIRCED AND UNDER PORTIONED .... FOOD WAS OK-GOOD BUT LEFT YOU THINKING WAS THAT IT ? AND WHAT ON EARTH DID I JUST PAY FOR ? NOT A KIDS MEAL FRIENDLY PLACE --- Each time I have been there the place was basically empty - Nice Ambiance ,,, decent reviews were obvious big draws I would say if for pizza - OK and although the regular menu is creative , you can do much better for $15-20 entrees and in reality $30+ PerPerson Too bad as I do see potential - work on your menu, portions and pricing and please get the Kid's thing right !

The thing that impressed me most was the staff. They are all very friendly! The food is delicious and it's a pretty good serving size. The Sigma-chi pizza really is one of the best pizzas I've ever had! Definitely a must try!

My husband and I were in San Diego on our honeymoon during their rare July storms. We decided to head to Old Town for dinner one night and found Pizza Bella. Upon entering the restaurant, everyone was friendly and helpful. Our waiter was Andrew and he was terrific (even helping us move our food inside when the rains started again). We enjoyed our entrees so much the first night that the next night we went back to try their pizza. It definitely did not disappoint. We look forward to visiting again when we make it back to San Diego!

Me and my husband ate there tonight and it wasn't busy for a Saturday night. The service was fast and the waiter was nice and attentive and seemed like he genuinely cared. Our food was great the cheese garlic bread was the only thing that was alright but other then that everything was delicious. I had the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and everything was good, my husband had the tortellini with chicken and he loved it I thought it was a great dish also, we also shared a pizza and it was pretty good the crust was amazing. The prices are decent and I loved how clean the restaurant was, the vibe was great. I'll be coming again when I'm downtown. The portions are huge.

came here with a big group of people so we took up the entire back patio area. We ordered a number of different styles of pizza with pasta and salad. I really liked the chicken pesto pizza and the combination. The only things I I wasn't a big fan of was the edge crust, thought it was a little too much bread by itself, was a little too crust. Overall there was a generous amount of toppings, and good flavor. Service was fine but since it was buffet style, not much to really comment on there.

The pizza was delicious!!! My awesome expirence started from when I ordered over the phone for delivery to when it arrive to my hotel room. The person who took my order was really nice and delivery person also. I also ordered their wings which were really spicy for me but they were at the same time good. I thought it would come with ranch but it didn't, so make sure to ask for it if that's how you eat them.

I am on vacation and have this place deliver twice already! Great pizza, subs, hot wings and absolutely love the pesto bread! If I come to town again I will definitely order again! Quick and polite delivery, great food, and they even deliver alcohol!! Two thumbs up from us for sure!!

I know Old Town is known for Mexican food, but it needs to be known for this place! We stumbled upon Pizza Bella the other night after missing the Coaster...our plan was to find a great Mexican restaurant and head back to catch a later train. On our way to find a good place, we walked by Pizza Bella - I felt like a cartoon character, being pulled into a place by the delicious aroma coming from inside. We were seated pretty quickly in this cute courtyard, and we ordered drinks and garlic cheesy bread. Oh wow, that garlic cheesy bread was amazing. They did not skimp on the cheese and it was toasted to perfection. It was the perfect mix between doughy and crusty. The pizza was brought out fairly quickly - they promised within 15 minutes and they delivered on that promise. We got a medium pizza with pepperoni and Italian beef with half mushrooms for the hubs. That pizza was incredible...I'd describe it, but just know it's delicious and you need to experience it. We're sooo picky with pizza and we loved this!! We were so happy we stopped here. The food was amazing and the service was awesome - I'm so surprised this place isn't more popular! This was Comic Con Saturday, every restaurant was packed but Pizza Bella wasn't. I think it might be because it looks like a hole in the wall, but inside it's so cute! Next time you're in Old Town, give this place a try...you will NOT be disappointed.

Pizza sounded amazing so I used my trust Yelp app to find pizza near me. Pizza Bella popped up. A medium cheese could be ready in 20min & cost me $13, so I opted to pick it up. Found parking easily (truly a miracle) and followed the heavenly aromas to the front door of Pizza Bella. Things seemed a little hectic, but everyone was so kind. I don't think they really took my order over the phone as I was told 20min, but it took 35min from the time I showed up (45min from my initial call. Thankfully I wasn't in a rush & the outdoor patio offered a cozy bench while I waited. I used the time to observe what others were ordering & it all looked treat. Mighty portions, quality looking dishes, hearty glasses of wine & aromas of Italian goodness filled the air. Got my pizza home & after dabbing some unnecessary grease off the top, I dove in. The crust is great! The cheese is wonderful, the sauce left me wanting more. It was more brushed on than anything else. The hearty crust left over would've paired great with some sauce to dip in. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because of the wait & the lack of sauce. It was still good, so I'd go again, but would ask for more sauce.

  • Eric D.

What a great place. The outside needs some work, which could have dropped it a star, but the pizza was worth 6 stars! Seriously the best pizza I have ever had! It is exactly what I want out of pizza crispy but soft crust, great toppings, so good. It is a good mix between traditional Italian pizza and American pizza. Love this place!

  • Katie D.

Great pizza place. We were able to eat outside on the private patio, which was very nice. The service was wonderful & the house wine wasn't bad either. I wish I hadn't forgotten the last piece of our pizza in our hotel room when we checked out!

The hotel (Residence Inn) highly recommended this place. We had it delivered. We ordered the deep skillet pizza 1/2 classic all meat and 1/2 sigma chi, fettucini alfredo and chicken marsala. All was great and we would definitely order from them again when we're visiting.

Used this place as a last minute location for a rehearsal dinner. We did salad, pizza, white alfredo with penne (no meat) and penne with a meat sauce. I personally do not like marinara and the meat sauce was so good! Alfredo was delicious but what I was most impressed with was the soft pizza. The crust was delicious!!! Staff was super friendly and on top of drinks. Great experience. I am glad my dad (who lives out of town) found them. I live 5 min from Old Town and will be back!!!

Pretty darn good pie here... pie as in pizza. I always forget that people in California use the word "Bro" and "Dude" but cannot comprehend the word pie meaning anything other than a dessert. Back to the review. The place is a quaint little spot in Old Town that has probably been there forever. There is a tiny dining room and a big patio that opens up to what could be perceived as many office buildings comprising of mental health care facilities. The pizza is delicious and fairly priced. The pasta is good too. Especially anything with their homemade Alfredo sauce. We tried the Shrimp Alfredo which was pretty darn good. We also tried the Chicken Marsala which I wont label as outstanding but it does the trick. This place is a short walk from the Old Town Trolley stop and is a must for a weary traveler that may find themselves at this train station for any period of time.

Highly recommend! The cheesy bread will not disappoint you and this is the kind of pizza that you won't want to stop eating even after you're stuffed. Their signature/best selling pizza is my favorite! The crust is perfectly chewy and crunchy. Still tastes awesome as reheated leftovers. This place makes my mouth water.

The staff here were really great and super friendly. The menu isn't too pricey. The pizza is great, it tastes nice and fresh. This place is also really close to Old Town SD, so it's a pretty convenient place to grab something to eat if you're in the mood for pizza.

Didn't get to try the food. After a 10-minute wait, when the waiter attempted to seat us, a manager said others were ahead of us and we would have to wait. My friend commented that they had a nearly EMPTY dining room (15-20 vacant tables!). The mgr responded that they were short-staffed. We went down the street to Rockin' Baja, got seated immediately, waited on very promptly, and had delicious food. Won't even think about trying Pizza Bella ever again. Very mis-managed in our opinion.

Well worth the visit and not an artifact of the tourist nature of the area - this is a real Italian restaurant. While known for their pizza the stars for us were the pasta and the service. The pasta was so tasty and perfectly cooked that we had to inquire if it was fresh or dry (turned out to be some of the best prepared dry pasta we have ever had). My family is 3/4ths vegetarian and one of the best things about this place was how accommodating they were. Two of our pastas were completely reengineered from all over the menu and not only were they happy to do it but there was no hint of any extra charge even when we added fresh tomatoes to a kids meal. NOTE: The house made spicy pepper red cream sauce is one of the best sauces any of us have ever tasted. I had the pizza and it was very good. It had a puffy, bready crust which isn't to my taste anymore (I'm a thin crust guy when it comes to brick oven pizzas) but the texture was good, and the flavor excellent. The toppings were fresh and well proportioned (meaning NOT too many). Overall we would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes good, well priced, Italian food and if you are walking around Old Town wondering if there is anything here other than Mexican food then Pizza Bella is an easy answer! (Outdoor seating too!)

I do care how convenient , touristy or blah blah you are when you HOSE children - your bad . Traveling North from the airport area on a Sunday I had a hungry child with me, We stopped in Old Town and I thought Pizza would be a go. Unfortunately my child did not want pizza so here we go........ Spaghetti with marinara sauce - (a very small bowl mind you) $9.00 Child's size beverage loaded with ice . $3.00 - Total for child $12 + tax & tip It's not tha $15 is totally ridiculous for a child nut it was for the meal that was served. Further proof , my child a slight 63lbs @ 9+ years old told me soon after getting a desert & while driving - "Daddy I'm hungry" (this never happens) Given even what they charge & give for an adult entree - (not much more) Giving a child a fist full of spaghetti and some iced beverage for $15 OTD is an abomination... The place is by NO MEANS fine dining although it presents itself well I should have stuck with my gut and taken my child to ANY of the other nearby establishments for a much more balanced meal at 1/2 the price or better This place is not KID Friendly ................

Went here for the first time and such a lovely place. The atmosphere there was relaxin and nice. We ordered a pizza with primavera veggies, it was weird to eat broccoli and carrots and squash and celery. But in the end, it tasted delicious.

We just went out to San Diego area and we always try to shop around Old Town. We were hungry and weren't sure where to go. We wound up going to Pizza Bella at 2707 Congress Street. They have indoor and outdoor dining. There were 8 of us and the vote was unanimous. The food was incredible (my wife got the calzone and I got the pizza). The soup was great, too! That covers the food end. Now for the service. I had our waiter, Andrew Kasawdish [sp] write his name on the back of the restaurant's card and told him I was going to give them a great review when we got back to Tucson. Andrew was attentive, without being overbearing. If I could give the restaurant and our waiter a rating of, "10", I would. Anytime we go back to Old Town, I can assure you that we'll be eating at Pizza Bella.

Yummmmmy! You won't be disappointed. I ordered the basic cheese, a custom pizza with a few items, hot wings and a cheese cake. Personally, I wish the sauce was a bit more tangy. This was the only reason that I didn't give a 5 star. Make no mistake though, you'll really enjoy the food! The service is fantastic. The people there are very personable. I'll definitely be returning.

I wish I could deduct from my taxes the cost of the pizza I've had to throw out because it was so bad. I had high hopes for this place because of the beautiful photos and lovely reviews but, alas, was sadly disappointed when I got my pizza home. I got a pepperoni / sausage, ate 3 pieces and threw the rest in the garbage. First the sauce. It was overwhelmingly flavorless and had an oddly dry and pastie texture. Next the crust. It looked like it was going to be light and buttery because golden, flakey exterior but, rather, was a little bitter and tasted like flour. The pepperoni, however, was delicious -- salty, spicy and delicate. But the the sausage had a really funky plasticky taste. I'm not sure if they make their own sausage like most real Italian immigrants who open ristorantè and pizzerias but is avoid the sausage. I would go back and try just a pepperoni pizza if it weren't for the lifeless sauce and flour coated crust. The search for good pizza in San Diego continues

When your father calls and says your brother wants his favorite pizza for his 7th birthday it seems normal. Then you realize it's 2.5 hours away in San Diego. Wow is he right. It's amazing! Service is great, employees are very nice and efficient an food is soooo good. Take the trip to Pizza Bella

Decided to try this place while vacationing in San Diego. Decently priced, delicious pizza, and friendly service. We had the pepperoni, jalapeno and pineapple pizza, and a garden salad to share. Mmmm! We'll definitely order from them again next time we're in town.

When I went it was a Monday and I went at night. It was a little crowded and we were waiting for a table for nine. The wait was reasonable but we waited outside because there wasn't a waiting area indoors. We ordered a bacon and vegetable pizza (which was amazing) and a shrimp pizza (decent) in a large and another in the largest size available. And for a hungry crowd of nine there were still 4 slices left over. The service was good and there was parking across the street. It's not too far from the main commotion in Old Town. I didn't pay so I'm not sure of the price but I'm sure it was reasonable for delicious food. The crust is GR8 if you're a crust type of person.

My wife and I have been here twice now and we thoroughly enjoyed it both times. The staff are friendly and attentive without being too intrusive. The prices are quite reasonable. The food is delicious. I recommend eating outside on the patio at night if it's not too cold for a relaxing dining experience. The pizza dough is fluffy and well seasoned. Last time, my wife ordered the shrimp diablo. The shrimp was perfectly cooked as was the spaghetti. The sauce was an interesting mix of pomodoro and Creole flavors. Very unique. Try the house Chianti. The Canolli is great as well. We will be back to Pizza Bella.

My brother swears by Bella Pizza. Over Christmas at my parents' house I also discovered he likes SpaghettiOs and "The Lone Ranger" movie so I could tell his tastes in all things suck. (Also, one of his favorite movies is "The Master of Disguise" starring Dana Carvey.) Still, Bella Pizza had really good Yelp reviews and it looked like it would be a nice lunch spot after taking the trolley to Old Town with my 4-year-olds. The awnings advertise "Best Pizza in America" and the website and menu quote that as coming from "The Mike & Maty Show" (which I've never heard of, but okay). Granted, we got the cheese pizza, and not the recommended Sigma Chi, on their "famous" hand-tossed crust, but it struck us as entirely mediocre. There was too much cheese on the pizza (my brother: "No such thing!") so I pulled some of it off. This place seems to rely on one (misguided) review they received once to try to lure everyone to eat here. By the way, if you're coming here with a baby, there is no changing table. However, the single bathroom is huge and you'd be able to change a diaper on a corner of the floor. (That is, if that doesn't ick you out. I did it.)

Just got pizza delivered to out apartment tonight. When they say giant they mean giant. We got the sweet and spicy. The sauce was fantastic. It has a real rustic taste. And the crust was perfectly cooked as we'll. my husband isn't a fan of thin crust so he was quite please with it :) this pizza was worth every penny.

Upon planning on going to Comic Con 2013, the plan was to book the hotel near Pizza Bella so we can engorge ourselves on their delicious pizza. So it was 2 years since the last time I was able to eat here. We got to our hotel after a long drive from SF to San Diego and ordered our usual pizza. We picked up and brought it back to the hotel and ate away. But wait.. it didn't taste like the Pizza Bella we knew and loved! The Italian Beef wasn't in half round slices as before, instead they were cut smaller and the toppings were more sparse than before. And my first bite of pizza caused the whole cheesy mess with toppings to slide off leaving me with 2 parts. Bread and sauce, cheese and toppings. Sadly we were disappointed by our anticipation of delicious pizza. The flavors weren't as bold as we remembered. What happened Pizza Bella? Why have u forsaken us!!! D:

Great food. Good atmosphere. I've been coming to Old Town for 30 years and never stopped here. We just always went for the authentic Mexican food and fresh made tortillas. As you might know parking is hard to find in Old Town. We happened to park in front if Pizza Bella. The smell was amazing. Although we didn't stop we decided to give them a try next time we came. So, we did and now will be making this place a regular stop when we visit. The pasta and pizza dish offerings have unique items and sauces you can't find anywhere. The cautious can still find the classic sauces and pizza toppings though. Also, with parking being a premium. They do have parking in the rear. Great job Pizza Bella!

Our favorite pizza place in San Diego!! Been going there for almost 5 years. Great pizza, great staff. It's all family owned. Fast service. There is parking in the back lot. If your eating at the restaurant, you get 2 hours free even though it says to pay.

I ordered from Pizza Bella this week when I was staying in Old Town on a business trip. I was tired of Mexican Food and desperately wanted a pizza! I ordered a pizza, garlic cheese bread, and ravioli's. The food was great. The garlic cheese bread was amazing! The best part is that they delivered to my hotel room! The only downfall is that the delivery man charged my bank card twice. But I called and spoke to the owner and he was very apologetic and immediately rectified the situation. He even offered me a discount if I were to go back and eat at the restaurant again (I got sick so I didn't get a chance). I would definitely go back if I had the chance!

It is impossible to order a bad pizza here. When they say it is the best Pizza in America I believe it. We had sweet and hot, there was no mistaking the authentic Pizza Bella taste. The outdoor seating could use some firepits or waterfountains.

I worked in old town a few months during the summer of 2010 and this was the pizza place I would eat from all the time. Now, every time I visit SD Old Town, I like to stop and eat here. I got married a few months ago and my wife had not eaten here. We were in town for valentine's and we wanted some Italian food so I decided to take here to Pizza Bella. As soon as we walked in we were asked if we had reservations, I understand it was valentine's and we didn't call in, so we said no and we were told there was no space inside but would be able to accommodate us in an outside table. We agreed and it was probably the best choice for the occasion. It was dark outside and they lit a candle for our table, it was very romantic for us. We went with a medium supreme pizza which I believe they call "The Works". We also got spaghetti and added the meat sauce. Meat sauce did not have mushrooms but they were able to add those in for us also. Food came out quick, I believe pizza first. This is not the typical pizza you eat at any pizza place. I would describe their pizza as worthy of an Italian restaurant. My wife was very impressed with the taste of their pizza and she said it was the perfect consistency of bread. She usually orders thin pizza and I like deep dish, she said this was the right meeting point of both choices. Pasta was great, however the bread that came with it was just ok. It could've been better if it would've been put in the oven. I guess what I am trying to say is that it wasn't toasted maybe...I don't know. Still a great pasta. We left very happy with pizza bella as our place for our valentine's dinner that night. Will continue stopping here when visiting SD.

This place is great!! The service was friendly and prompt, and the pizza was maybe the best I've tasted. We shared a med pizza kitchen (everything but the kitchen sink). It was so full of flavor, but tasted lighter than you might think based on the description. It was spicy, but we like that. The prices are great and I will definitely come back.

Excellent food! I had the caprese salad and sigma chi pizza with a glass of chianti. The restaurant offers indoor or outdoor eating in a comfortable relaxed atmosphere in Old Town. The price is right for the quality of the food.

I couldn't do it! Went in on a Saturday (craving pizza and salad) and needed a quick fix. I asked to use the bathroom which was all the way in back thru the kitchen and after I ordered which was quite a chore because the man wouldn't put the phone down from his ear and greet me or nothing, I was just stuck on stupid I guess....but anyways - placed my order - asked to use bathroom and then I saw the kitchen - totally disgusting was my impression - then I went in the bathroom....felt like it hadn't been cleaned since 1966!!! #disgusting I walked out! #TheEnd

Pizza Voted Best in America is for those with open minds, and don't mind broccoli on their pizza. That was a description of the Sigma-Chi Pizza, which is suppose to be the trademark pizza. The crust was very good, and I thought it was different, and no so heavy( I think it empathizes the best of Italian veggies), but to my other co-workers, the pizza felt totally unsatisfied. The portions are might big though. Otherwise for a more traditional pizza, I would go for "The Works" (which has lots of meat)

Italian quesadilla is pretty good. Big. Came here after charger game and they seemed ill prepared for the business. Waited about 25 min for food that doesn't normally take that long to make??? Soup, a club sandwich and the Italian quesadilla ... And we got here BEFORE the rush. Feel bad for the people who all came after us; I saw one group of four get up and leave because they were waiting ten minutes to try and order food. No waitress. Maybe someone called in sick? I give them benefit of doubt, 3 stars for the effort. But, management; if you read the reviews, bring in more staff following the charger games; how can you not think of that?

i went sunday night after leaving old town for the day of the dead celebrations, they sat me right away, the food was really good, the beer (stella) was not that cold, thats what lost them a star. the server was super friendly and very out going. i will be back.

This place is great. The ingredients are fresh. Pizza is thick but not Chicago style. I highly recommend this place. Nice to eat on the patio. They even make their own bread for the Philly Cheese. Everything about this food is a must taste!! Not much more needs to be said!

"Voted best pizza in America" what a joke!!!! WORST PIZZA I HAVE EVER TRIED. Oh my goodness I don't even know where to begin. My friends and I ordered this pizza while vacationing in SD and wow we were disappointed. Ended up throwing away a box and a half of pizza because it was so disgusting. The quality is terrible, reminded us of our school lunch in grade school. Oh also we were blown out of our minds and it was still terrible so ya that should tell you a lot haha. Anyways save your money and buy pizza somewhere else. You are welcome.

I had a half hawaiian and half cheese delivered to my room at the Candlewood suites. We had a salad with it and also wings. Everything was delicious. It was some of the best pizza to date I have ever had, seriously. It was dang good. It was right up there with NY pizza. I only wish I had more time to spend in San Diego and could actually have went into their establishment. The service on the delivery was fast and the pizza was hot and fresh. When in San Diego I will order from them again!

Definitely enjoyed my experience here. It was not busy so the service was great. Maybe 4 tables total were busy. Our waiter was great and attentive. I ordered some Pinot, my wife a Peroni, and both, as usual, were delicious. We also ordered the garlic bread which were great! Definitely order them. We also had the pizza that was very meaty. I forget the name. Sausage and pepperoni etc. Without the beer and wine it was very average price for two. We splurged a little on the drinks but I'd love to come back maybe with my family or visitors.

I truly was not impressed. The pizza was burned and cut poorly so all the cheese would fall once a slice was lifted. -don't go for the chicken parmigiana either. The only reason i put three stars bc the wings and soup were pretty good & the staff was nice

My family ate at Pizza Bella tonight based upon Yelp reviews. We walked in after a day at Sea World and boy did we have a great meal. Fresh salads, good pasta for the girls, and an anchovy and black olive pizza paired with a Chianti for us. We will treasure this meal as much or more than our day with the dancing dolphins. Our server was particularly skilled. Everything went well. If you are from out of town, like us, and you stay in Old Town SD in order to visit Sea World, treat yourselves well and dine here.

This place is as good as it gets. My wife and I have lived in San Diego for three years and we have been searching for the best pizza in town. This is it. The waiter turned out to be an owner. As soon as I walked into this place, my mouth started watering, and my stomach starting complaining. The food came out in a timely manner and it was delicious. After eating half of a medium pizza, I was feeling content and fulfilled. The pizza was perfectly cooked and had every texture that I love. The waiter (Manager) was always available without smothering us or pestering us. I will be going back and this will be the only pizza place I go to from now on.

The only thing better than the food is the exceptional service. Finally a restaurant that realizes the importance of greating guests with a smile and always saying thank you with an invitation to come back again. The Greek salad we tried on a whim...fabulous. And they oblige special requests on pizzas....i.e., I love extra thin crust which they are more than willing to do. They serve only reasonably priced, full-bodied red wines, every option is a good one. And the atmosphere is so comfortable yet quaint, clean, and authentic. There is no bad choice on the menu. If you appreciate authentic Italian, make it your next dining experience!!

This place has the best lasagna I've had outside of Manhattan. Damn good homemade pasta, solid pizza too. Not thick crust, not thin. I've heard it called Boston-style, but I don't know it I'll buy that. What I do know is that it's not too expensive (~12 for lasagna, 14-18 for a pizza), everything I've had has been badass, and the service is very friendly. A little, just a little, slow, but it's a family joint, so that's fine by me. Only place in SD I'll pay to sit down and eat Italian.

Listen if you are in Old Town and looking for something other than Mexican Food, go here! They have seating indoors and out. They bake their own bread, best garlic bread or cheese garlic bread in the area. Also little Italy is cool but to crowded, head here for a nice Italian meal. Friendly service, food made to order so you are not rushed out the door. This was one of the most memorable meals of our vacation! I will return.

The lunch special, a personal pizza and a soda. Sometimes a little anitpasto. Inevitably, I get the pesto, with tomatoes and sausage. Great crust, as Californian crusts go. This is what makes it special... my old roommates and I would come out here on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, usually when it was hot out, we'd sit in the plaza, drink, smoke, and play cards until the food came out.

Wow!!! I have eaten here a few times now but tonight I decided to get delivery. I ordered a cheese pizza and a salad. They were both amazing! The man on the phone who took my order was kind and friendly and was happy to give me suggestions on what to get. The delivery guy was in a great mood and really nice. He got here so quickly that the pizza still needed cooling down time before I could eat it.

It's like a hidden gem in Old Town. The pizza is always great and the salad is fresh. The wine is decent. Went there for a casual birthday dinner on a Saturday evening. The restaurant is not very crowded and we even got a parking spot right by the restaurant on the street. Our waiter is Jason and he is very attentive. halfway at dinner, the crowd left and we were the only table in the restaurant. They started playing opera in the kitchen and made a great atmosphere. We left with a very satisfied stomach and great memory.

This place is great! Cute, cozy, good food - what more can one ask for in a city where these kind of establishments are scarce. I love the chicken pesto pizza and look forward to trying other dishes.

Kickin at the Hotel Circle in SD on a conference and craving pizza..NY style is my favorite, but I was too lazy to go anywhere so I got delivery... This place did it. Not bad, pepperoni, probably better then the chain spots. I think if I'm ever in this spot again I'll try something else.

Had the vegetarian pizza. Sauce was bland and watery. The crust was thick and doughy and seemed to perhaps be undercooked in the middle. The cheese was all-mozzarella and put on thick. I've worked in two pizza shops and a cheddar-mozzarella combo makes a tastier and easier-to-eat topping. This was overly stringy and clumpy. Ok toppings though it was pretty heavy on the red onions. The decor was worn and kind of cheap like a motel from the 80s. Overall, a passable but unimpressive experience.

Recommended by our hotel staff and good yelps we ventured in to try "America's best pizza." Really?? C'mon yelpers! The decor has not been updated since the 80's. The patio dining was a dismal area that looked as if it doubled for a break spot for the surrounding businesses. No draft beers in a city overflowing with great microbreweries. $5 for a bottle of corona. Not a great first impression, but we were all starving after a full day of walking around old town. Ordered the margarita pizza but it comes with no red sauce, so we had it made with red sauce and added pepperonies cooked on top. Perhaps this was too much of a deviation for them. Couldn't be they were too busy, as there was only one other table of diners. When the pizza arrived, one look on my teenage son's face said it all. His exact words were "there's no way I'm eating that." I tried to down play the pepperonis filled like little bird baths with grease, and the oil slick literally dripping off the pan. I ventured in for a slice, after much napkin dabbing, and took a bite. Burned garlic taste. The pepperonies were tossed on in clumps, not nicely arranged so that the ones underneith were not cooked. Maybe the reason they want to put them under the cheese is so no one sees how much grease they emit. They must use really low quality meats and cheese to produce so much grease. I only managed about half a slice. Hubby and daughter also had less than one slice each. Son sat there with a perfectly clean plate and scowled. Our server never even asked if everything was alright. Even when we declined a to go box for the remaining 3/4 of our pizza and he cleared away my son's unused plate. What a waste of money. We left and had to go buy my son something to eat. We all voted and this was the Worst Pizza we ever had.

I've never enjoyed a plain cheese pizza so much until I came here. Eggplant Parmesan was also very good. The outdoor seating in the courtyard provided a great Mediterranean feel even in the unusually cold summer night.

This our favorite little Italian place in San Diego by far!! The service was great, everything we had was full--flavored and delicious, from the soup to the pasta to the pizza. It makes for a low-key "night on the town" , we like to people-watch the tourists and cruise around old town, browse through the shops, and finish up with dinner here. We stopped in here on a whim when we didn't want to deal with the crowds at all the typical old town places, and never looked back. I haven't been to old town for mexican food since!!

  • Christina L.

This is a great place for pizza and not on the tourist path! I get the vegetarian but substitute pesto for marinara. The Italian salad is really good too and big enough to split with a pizza. The crust is not thin, but not too thick either. Out door dinning is nice when it's not too windy.

On a boring saturday with nothing to do and in desperate search for the perfect restaurant my group of 10 girlfriends stumbled upon pizza bella in old town and could not have been happier. We called just moments before our departure to make a reservation and they accommodated us beautifully. The staff was extremely friendly and happy to seat us either inside or outside. The atmosphere was adorable and charming. The pizza crust was unbelievably delicious and the food selection was incredible. Everyone had a good time. They were even happy to help us split the bill 10 ways! We were all so happy we ventured outside of our normal stops to try pizza bella. Jason you did not let us down!

Pizza Bella is my go to place for quality pizza in San Diego. A casual and cozy little restaurant in Old Town, Pizza Bella has been in San Diego since 1970, and I can see why. Their pizza and its ingredients are quality. We usually get a carafe of the Chianti, which is only $10 and equals about 6 glasses of wine. Their house salad is fresh and delicious and comes with the house basil vinaigrette, which I love. The mushroom and co. pizza is my favorite pizza ever! They serve it piping hot and the crust is indescribably good. The cheese is quality and plentiful and it comes with Italian sausage, mushroom, and olives. A main reason I like their pizza is that it is really fresh tasting and not greasy at all. Pizza Bella also has great pasta dishes, I have been with other people that have ordered the pasta and loved it. I highly recommend this place. The staff is also consistent and helpful, when we go there they recognize us, which gives the place a nice feeling.

Great Pizza and Italian food and the service is spectacular! The eggplant parmesan is divine and the chocolate pizza is a very good, unique dessert. Location is nice also, right in the heart of old town, so lots of other stuff to do. If you are looking for a full range of great italian cuisine and friendly service, this is the place to go!

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
